Traveling, spending time with loved ones, and eating copious amounts of food. The holidays are right around the corner, and sticking to your healthy habits might be an after thought. Don’t fear, making sure to stay on track with your health isn’t impossible! Here are some of our tips for having a happy holiday without taking a misstep with your health.

1. Bring Your Own Food

This might be weird, but for a lot of people with restricted diets, this is a norm for social situations. If you are on a diet, or trying to eat a bit healthier having some healthy alternatives when visiting friends and family this holiday is perfect. Offer to bring a veggie platter to snack on before dinner, or a healthier dessert option like a berry and yogurt parfait. If you are following a vegan or gluten-free diet, cooking your main course before and popping it into the microwave is an easy way to eat while remaining loyal to your diet.

2. Don’t Skip Exercise

It’s easy to skip your morning run, or miss that gym appointment, while you’re visiting family. DON’T! Get your butt in gear! Bring your running shoes with you, find a gym or do body weight exercises. Stay motivated while you’re on vacation. Just remember: 15-minutes of exercise is always better than 0 minutes of exercise.

3. Stay Strong

As much as we love spending time with our in-laws, sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder. Make sure you’re mentally giving yourself space. Take a few minutes here and there to meditate, do deep breathing exercises, or take a short walk by yourself. You’ll know when it’s time to get out of dodge, and giving yourself some space will make your holidays infinitely better.

Those are our tips for keeping your health up during the stressful holidays. Do you have any holiday health horror stories? What tips do you survive the holidays with? Let us know in the comments!
